SUMMARY OF INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES

Since its foundation, the Adalbert Stifter Institute was devoted almost exclusively to research into Stifter`s writings. Now it is known as the StifterHaus and has developed into a Centre for the study of the literature and language of Upper Austria.

Efforts were made already in the 1960s for the inclusion of Upper Austrian literary history. The Institute of 1983 expanded its field of activity to incorporate literary history, literature and language in Upper Austria into the sphere of activity of the Adalbert Stifter Institute. At the same time, the Upper Austrian Literatury Archive opened its doors.

Since 1992 the StifterHaus has held 63 exhibitions (as of mid 2008) including an extensive series of its own productions, many of which have shown its research into Upper Austrian literature of particular interest to the general public.

“Fluid Texts” from Austria (the so-called ‘Liquid Languages’) and KLONK, a short survey through the world of literature for children and adults.

Many of these exhibitions also went on tour abroad. Exhibition catalogues were published as an accompaniment while regular day seminars were conducted to elucidate the work of the authors involved.
