THE BIOGRAPHICAL ARCHIVE

Contact: Mag. Dr. Bernhard Glas, Tel.: +43 (0)732/7720/14805

Activities:
The Archive collects and registers bio and bibliographical data of persons from the world of art, literature and music, currently, about 9,000 in number. It is planned to use this data in support of regional, literary research.

Holdings:
Documents stored in folders and card index files in which reviews and reports are collected from 13 different German media sources.

Notes on the Holding and its Origin
The quality of the collection is uneven as a result of the discontinuities in the recording, assembly and archiving of the material over the last decades. The breaks in continuity of the institute activity can be attributed to the changes from one authority to another and also to continual changes in personnel.
The Biographical Archive was taken over by the StifterHaus from the Institut für Landeskunde in 1972.

Das StifterHaus hat das OÖ. Biografische Archiv 1972 vom Institut für Landeskunde übernommen.

Criteria for Acceptance:
All Upper Austrians by birth or non-Upper Austrians who have lived more or less permanently in Upper Austria, namely:

Artists, writers, architects, theologians, scholars in the humanities who have distinguished themselves by their work in the public realm

Authors (including politicians and those professions mentioned above) who can show evidence of relevant publications

Sources:
In the first instance, daily and weekly newspapers and magazines; academic journals with the focus on literary and language research, likewise social and societal research.
All the information gained is collected on a bibliographical basis and the newspaper and magazine articles (in copied form) are placed in a personal folder and chronologically organized.
